China Glaze Crackle Metals, plus Your Chance to Win!!

I was so excited when I received these two China Glaze Crackle Metals the other day. I've been dying to try them. I received Oxidized Aqua and Tarnished Gold. The formula of both polishes was fabulous. If you've had difficulty with other crackles/shatters, try these metallic beauties. They apply smoothly and easily, and crack very well.

Tarnished Gold is a beautiful true gold metallic crackle. This color gold makes me think of pirate treasure hidden in a sea cave somewhere. I love this color and I can see myself using it year round! I've been wanting a gold crackle, and this one really fits the bill.

I used a medium-thick coat of Tarnished Gold over two coats of China Glaze Raspberry Festival. Am I the only one who always forgets the "p" in raspberry? I ALWAYS have to go back and add it in. Anyway, I love this combo, and it reminds me how much I love Raspberry Festival!

Next up we have Oxidized Aqua. When I first saw the promo pictures for this collection, I knew I would LOVE Oxidized Aqua. I'm a sucker for aqua colors, and aqua metallic crackle is just a huge win. This is a gorgeous pale, sparkling aqua with lots of silver mixed in.

For this look, I used one medium-thick coat of Oxidized Aqua over two coats of China Glaze Blue Paradise (if you don't own this, buy it NOW. Seriously.) Again, LOVE this combination, need to wear it as a full mani ASAP. I really love both of these Crackle Metals, and I intend to pick up Cracked Medallion as well!

Now, for the REALLY fun news! China Glaze accidentally sent me an extra set of Tarnished Gold and Oxidized Aqua!!! You know what that means= GIVEAWAY TIME!!!!!

Houston, We Have A Sandwich.

I originally passed on all of the jelly "sorbet" finish polishes from the OPI Texas collection. I'm not a big fan of jelly/sorbet, as I can't stand VNL. VNL on purpose... really not my thing. BUT... when I did my first ever jelly sandwich, I was hooked! I needed more jelly!!!! So I picked up OPI Houston We Have a Purple for sandwiching purposes.

This is one coat of OPI Houston We Have a Purple, two coats of Sinful Colors I Miss You, followed by one more coat of Houston We Have a Purple and a coat of CND Shiney top coat to finish it all off. This look doesn't look as much like a sandwich as my last jelly sandwich. This kind of looks like it could just be glitter on top of Houston We Have a Purple. I didn't want to put two coats of Houston on top and eclipse the glitter though. I like the way it looks regardless!

I'm contemplating picking up the other sorbets from the Texas collection now. Do you own any of them? Have you tried "sandwiching" them? I want to try a shatter sandwich next!

OPI Electric Eel Over Black Rocks My Socks

Feel free to take a few minutes to ogle these pictures. Definitely enlarge them to see the wonder in full force. Especially the first picture, that one needs to be clicked on. This masterpiece is OPI Electric Eel over two coats of KnockOut Cosmetics Flatte Black, although any black polish would do the trick.

I thought this polish would work well over black, and I was SO right. This is amazingly beautiful in person. It changes every time you move your hand, and looks different in all kinds of lighting. Sometimes it looks very very green. Other times, it looks almost pinkish gold, or even a purple color! Electric Eel is pretty alone, but putting it over black makes it a total standout. This is one polish I will not mind layering. I imagine it would look fantastic over navy blue as well.

Oh P.S., I added a blogroll finally! It's small now, but please email me if you'd like to be added to my blogroll. I only ask that you add me to yours in return, and I will only add blogs that are updated reasonably frequently.

Revlon Carbonite is DYNAMITE!

It's official. The drugstore polish companies are KILLING it for Fall 2011!!! First, I was blown away by Sally Hansen Insta Dri Bronze Ablaze. Now Revlon is having their moment with Revlon Carbonite, their answer to Chanel Graphite. I have exceeded my Chanel budget for the month (having purchased two items, I am now broke). I bought Peridot because it is super unique, and I really wanted Graphite as well. Fortunately, Revlon has released Carbonite. While it's not a dead-on dupe for Graphite, it's good enough for me.

Carbonite is a complex shimmering gunmetal polish. I honestly am not really sure what this formula would be called. It's not a foil, and it's not really a traditional shimmer either. In person, it kind of looks like a ton of individual shimmer particles all melded in together. Carbonite also looks different in different lights and at different angles.

Revlon polishes and I usually get along quite well, and Carbonite was no different. It applied smoothly and easily. This is only two coats, it was very opaque. Like I said about the Sally Hansen polish, if more drugstore polishes were like this, I'd never buy the pricey ones. Carbonite looks and acts like a much more expensive polish.

This is not the first time Revlon has released a near dupe for a Chanel polish. I think it's pretty cool that they come out with close matches to the Chanel "polish of the season". I'm sure Chanel doesn't think it's cool. Unfortunately for me, I was never able to find the other two Chanel-dupes, Black with Envy and Perplex. Perplex must have sold out in my town in about a day. I kept finding empty displays of it, but sadly, no bottles. So, if anyone ever sees those two in a blogsale, please let me know. I'd love to pick them up.

What do you think about Revlon's Chanel-duping trend? Love it or hate it?

Sally Hansen Sets Fall Ablaze!

So the other day I dropped into my favorite drugstore for nail polish browsing, Harmon. I went to "see what they had" and we all know what happens on that kind of drugstore trip. I was pretty well-behaved however, and I only got a few things. I happen to think that today's post is SUCH a drugstore gem though! Sally Hansen Bronze Ablaze is my favorite drugstore polish in a long time! Read on and look at the many drool-worthy pictures I have included for your viewing pleasure!

Sally Hansen Insta Dri Bronze Ablaze is a gorgeous, multi-faceted color. It's bronze, for sure, but in certain lights/at different angles, it flashes green, gold, copper, brown, even a few hints of yellow sparkle! I think this looks like a MUCH more expensive polish than it is (I think I paid under $4). In fact, Bronze Ablaze packs the pigment I thought was missing from NARS Desperado.

Bronze Ablaze is opaque in one coat, but I think two coats brings out all of it's multi-dimensional goodness. It is from the Insta Dri line and unlike some Insta Dris I have tried, it does dry very quickly! I added CND Super Shiney top coat, as I thought it would look best shiny. It isn't matte or dull by itself, but a clear top coat brings out all of the sparkle. The formula was fabulous, absolutely no complaints. Again, it seemed more expensive! Polishes like this make me want to punch myself when I buy a Chanel. If all this goodness is available at $4, what am I doing dropping $25 on polish???

If you haven't ever used a SH Insta Dri polish, the brush is a little different. It is designed to supposedly cover the nail in one stroke, but I don't bother to do that. I do my usual three strokes, and I find that the brush is very nice after you get used to it. But it does take a bit of practice!

I am assuming Bronze Ablaze is new for fall. Harmon had a new-ish looking display of Insta Dris with Bronze Ablaze, a pretty silver, a teal kind of color and a few red/wine type colors. This is definitely a MUST HAVE and will be on my nails AND toes a LOT this fall. I hope Sally Hansen does more polishes with this kind of dimension and high quality formula. This is one EXCELLENT polish.

Indoors, low light

Sally Hansen Insta Dri polishes are available at a drugstore near you!
