OPI Shatter the Scales Semi-Fail

Sometimes I try little nail experiments and they fail. But I'm fine with that because nail polish is easily removable and you can always start all over again with something new. In this case, I was experimenting with the best way to apply OPI Shatter the Scales, the gorgeous shimmering deep forest green shatter polish from OPI The Amazing Spider-Man. In these pictures, I am wearing one layer of Shatter the Scales over two coats of OPI Your Royal Shine-ness.

On my pointer finger (above), I tried just applying Shatter the Scales in a normal three-stroke fashion. For some reason, it crackled only on the sides and left a big un-shattered area in the center. I don't think this shattered as well as other OPI Shatters, like Super Bass. I also tried this over OPI Just Spotted the Lizard and had the same problem.

On my middle nail, I tried my signature "blobbing" method for applying shatters. If you have a crackle or shatter polish that just won't shatter, give blobbing a go. You just blob your brush on in spots all over the nail. It looks pretty cool like this!! Next time, I will do the blobbing method on all of my nails.

For the last two nails, I wanted to try using top coat over OPI Your Royal Shine-ness before applying Shatter the Scales. Sometimes with glittery polish, this makes the shatter polish work better. However, that was NOT the case here, as you can see. Shatter the Scales did not want to shatter over Zoya Armor. Now, maybe it wasn't 100% dry, but it seemed dry to me. Next time I wear Shatter the Scales I will blob it on over another polish and just finish it all off with top coat. I'll definitely be showing you this shatter again, just better next time!

OPI Shatter the Scales and the other shades in the Amazing Spider-Man collection should be available now at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for  $8.50 ($9.95 CAN) suggested retail for each Nail Lacquer.

OPI Nicki Minaj Collection Part One!!!!

OPI Did It On Em

Let's talk Nicki Minaj for a hot second. Now, if you haven't heard of Nicki Minaj, she is an extremely successful recording artist with a penchant for weird outfits and hair. Incidentally, if you haven't heard of Ms. Minaj, I'd like to know more about the rock you've been living under. Is it cozy? Does it get cold at night?

 OPI Did It On Em

All joking aside though, Nicki Minaj happens to be a favorite female celebrity of mine. I'm not much for the whole celebrity thing. I am not a fan of women who stand quietly, look pretty and dainty, and behave well all of the time. I am, however, a fan of loud, outspoken women who like to look hot, but also don't mind rocking a WEIRD outfit. Like Nicki Minaj's all leopard number, featuring a 2 foot tall leopard print beehive. If you are comfortable wearing outfits like this, I like you!

OPI Did It On Em

Moving back to the OPI Nicki Minaj collection now, we're starting off with OPI Did It On Em, a bright chartreuse creme. I love chartreuse, so I knew I would love this. Just from memory, I'd say this is somewhere in between OPI Who The Shrek Are You? and Fiercely Fiona. It's less green, more yellow, and lighter than Shrek, but less yellow than Fiercely Fiona. In any case, I see a need for it in my collection of strange green/yellow cremes.

 OPI Did It On Em

Any polish with yellow in it can go the streaky route, but not Did It On Em. It applied really nicely, with no extra effort. It was very self-leveling too, so a few times I thought it would streak, but it smoothed right out by itself. I used three coats.

OPI Super Bass Shatter over OPI Did It On Em

Next up in the Nicki Minaj collection is Super Bass Shatter, a burgundy purple shimmer shatter polish. If you haven't already guessed, each polish in this collection is named after a Nicki Minaj song. Super Bass happens to be my favorite Nicki song. I loved this song when her Pink Friday album first came out, before it was released as a single. I'm happy to say that the song's namesake polish is really lovely!!

OPI's shatters have been my favorite variety of crackle polish right from the get go. They are so easy to apply and shatter perfectly. If you want a more random look, just apply the polish in a different direction, or in a pattern. Super Bass Shatter worked superbly, breaking apart in seconds. I always have a favorite nail when I use shatters, and this time it's my middle finger! I like that weird middle crack that looks like an upside down cat arching it's back. I also LOVE this chartreuse and burgundy color combination!

 OPI Pink Friday

OPI Pink Friday is a medium pink creme, not too light, not too dark and not too blue-leaning either. I could not accurately capture this color and I'm not too sure why. The above picture makes it look too pastel. It's brighter than that, but not actually a bright.

  OPI Pink Friday

This close-up is a better picture of the color, but it's a bit less blue-toned than this. The pictures below were taken with flash and are the closest I got to the actual color. The polish is still a tad brighter than this though, not pastel, but definitely bubblegum pink.

  OPI Pink Friday

Pink Friday also had really nice application. It was quite pigmented, this is only two coats! It was also not streaky, unlike other pink cremes I own. I am always looking for a pigmented bubblegum pink creme that isn't streaky, and it looks like I have finally found it!! My mom will really like this one, I bet she'll be wearing it in a day or two. I'm not big on pink, but I really like this one.

Super Bass Shatter looks really excellent over Pink Friday as well. This is the next look I'll be sporting from this collection (to hear what the first one was, tune in to Part Two tomorrow!!).

This time my favorite is my ring finger!! Love that weird shape there!

I will have Part Two of this collection for your viewing pleasure tomorrow, as well as my final thoughts on the collection. So far, I'd say it's full of awesomesauce.

The OPI Nicki Minaj collection is available now at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Ulta, Trade Secret and JC Penney. You can visit OPI.com to find out where to buy OPI.

OPI Pink Shatter Brightens My Day!

Lately it seems like it's raining every day that I have a little free time for swatching. But, on this cloudy and rainy day, I decided to swatch OPI Pink Shatter despite the bad weather! OPI released Pink Shatter in October for Breast Cancer Awareness month. OPI chose a lovely shade of pink in the very cool shatter formula to promote breast cancer awareness this year.

I did one coat of Pink Shatter over two coats of OPI Skull and Glossbones. Pink Shatter is a shimmery bright pink that would pop over any light color such as white, silver or even a pale pink. I think it's pigmented enough that it would great over some darker colors as well.

I did a medium-thick coat of Pink Shatter and it began to crack apart immediately. I really love OPI's shatter formula. It is by far the best shatter/crackle polish I have tried. I also really love their shimmery shatters like this one and the blue shatters.

Overall, I love Pink Shatter! I think I'll be having a lot of fun with it around Valentine's Day!! Pink Shatter is definitely a great shade to bring attention to breast cancer. I highly recommend it if you love pink or shatter polishes.

OPI Pink Shatter is available now at professional salons like Ulta, Trade Secret and Beauty Brands.

Sally Hansen Vintage Violet Crackle Overcoat

Every time a post a crackle polish, I remember that I seriously love them. I know I own quite a lot of them, but I really do love all of the different colors/finishes. Sally Hansen Vintage Violet Crackle Overcoat is an especially gorgeous crackle. It's a beautiful shimmering violet colored crackle.  Some other brands have had difficulties with shimmer crackle formulas, but not Sally Hansen. This cracks really well and is easy to apply.

For this look, I used one coat of Sally Hansen Silver Sweep Insta Dri polish, with one medium-thick coat of Sally Hansen Vintage Violet Crackle Overcoat. It's a nice and easy look, as both of these polishes dry super quickly!

I think the picture below might be the most color accurate. This polish is really a blue-purple, but cameras hate representing purple properly!

Sally Hansen Vintage Violet is available at drugstores. Find one near you on their website.

Sally Hansen Summer NOTD

If you are an avid reader of nail polish blogs, you may be a bit confused about exactly what season it is here in the US right now. Nail polish blogs are flooded with fall collections, Halloween polish and previews of holiday goodies. Yet, it is still warm outside and my 365 Cats calender reads "August". Never fear, I have a post for you today that should clear up this confusion. I am currently sporting Sally Hansen Insta Dri in Lightening with Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat in Fuchsia Shock. This color combination must mean that IT'S STILL SUMMER!

Now that we've established that, let's talk about this excellent color combo. Pink and yellow is a really cheery pairing, and these two polishes in particular work very nicely together. This was my first experience with Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat, and I think it's excellent. It dries and cracks VERY quickly, so just make sure you  get a nice large bead of polish on the brush and apply a kind of thick coat. Otherwise, it can start to dry too fast.

If you're looking to sport a few more summer manicures, give this look a try. I was feeling a tad grumpy today, but it really cheered me up immediately! It's just so bright and happy! The pink looks graffiti-ish against the yellow, doesn't it? I had fun with this one, and that's what nail polish is for, right??

Anyway, the next few weeks on Never Enough Nails are going to be interesting. I have a TON of fall stuff to show you, some Halloween treats I found, and I also still have a few summer looks that I want to share. So it's going to be a pretty mixed bag, but I promise, it's all good stuff!

To find out where Sally Hansen products are sold near you, check their store locator at sallyhansen.com.

Sally Hansen Fuchsia Shock was sent to me for review by a PR agent for Sally Hansen. For more information, please see my Disclosure Policy.
