China Glaze Road Trip for Spring 2015, My Picks Part 2!

 *Purchased by me*

Wow, I can't believe it's taken me so long to get back to posting! I think this might be the longest I have gone without a real blog post in my whole history of blogging! I got the flu and it was absolutely miserable. I could barely leave my bed for three days and even when I was able to leave my bed, I still had almost no energy for anything. But, I'm finally back today with the second half of my China Glaze Road Trip picks. First up is China Glaze Trip of a Lime Time, a pea soup yellow-green creme. This is one of those weirdo greens that I love. It is pretty bright, so it kind of looks like radioactive pea soup haha. Trip of a Lime Time also has a murky quality to it, so it can look less bright in some lighting conditions.

The formula was not my favorite. This seems to be the way of this collection for me, great colors, not great formula. It was thin and runny, like the others. This is three coats and it's definitely still streaky. You really have to be careful to wipe off the brush, or an avalanche of polish will rain down on your cuticles.

China Glaze Wanderlust is a pale whitened pink with hidden brighter pink shimmer. The shimmer is so subtle, it's actually more like a pearl, not really a full on shimmer. It was really not too noticeable on the nails. I had hoped for the shimmer to be more pronounced, as that would make a very cool polish.

This is three coats and I still have some streaks. It was on the thin side, although I don't think this was the worst one of the bunch. It seemed to be a bit more manageable than a couple of the others.

China Glaze Boho Blues is a beautiful cornflower blue creme. It's bright and saturated, but also looks a little bit soft. It's really a perfect blue for spring. If you are a blue polish lover like myself, you will definitely want to bring this baby home with you!

Boho Blues is a bit on the thin side, like the other polishes in this collection. I got some streaks on my ring nail, but the other nails were less streaky. This is three coats. Still not my favorite formula, but such a lovely color.

Well, I won't lie to you. I am disappointed in the formulas of the six polishes I purchased from the China Glaze Road Trip collection. I was very excited about the colors and the pretty contrasting shimmer, but I wish China Glaze would step up their formula game. Other companies are really working on making their polish apply flawlessly in just two coats, and China Glaze seems to be falling behind in this respect. I do think there are some polishes from this collection that are worth the purchase if you truly love the colors and have a bit of patience.

The China Glaze Road Trip collection is available now at Ulta stores and online at various sites. I purchased mine at head2toebeauty.com.

I have so much swatching to do to make up for the time I lost when I was sick. Please stay tuned for the Zoya Naturel Satins, Barielle spring 2015, OPI Hawaii, etc.!!

China Glaze Road Trip Collection for Spring 2015- Swatches of 3 of My Picks!

*Purchased by me*

Just a few years ago, my favorite China Glaze collections were always the fall and Halloween collections. Lately though, they've been killing it in the spring department and Spring 2015 stayed true to that game. When I saw the China Glaze Road Trip collection for the first time, I immediately NEEDED a bunch of them. I ended up ordering six polishes and I have the first three for you today. Obviously, I had to have the sunshine yellow with pretty pinkish shimmer, China Glaze Sun's Up Top Down. I love a good yellow polish and yellow with shimmer is even better. The shimmer is these polishes is very smooth and a little bit subtle. In low light, you don't see it that much, but in sunlight or brighter lighting, it just glows! The shimmer in Sun's Up Top Down is pinky gold, and it really spices up the bright egg yolk yellow.

The formula is fairly typical of a yellow polish. It tends to be streaky and it needed three coats for full opacity and evenness. The consistency of all three of these was a little thin, so I had to do some clean up. You have to be a bit cautious to avoid flooding the cuticle.

China Glaze Dashboard Dreamer is a gorgeous powder blue with delicate pinkish shimmer. This is so beautiful in person- I think the shimmer is more obvious in person. This is exactly what I want to wear on my nails in the spring. The soft baby blue is so fresh looking and the pink shimmer makes it magical. The color makes me think of the packaging for the upcoming MAC Cinderella collection (NEED! Google this right now!), so I keep relating this polish to magical fairy tales in my brain.

Dashboard Dreamer actually had the best formula of these three. This is three coats, but you definitely could get away with two. I did the third just for my camera, as I could see a bit of unevenness and didn't want it to be magnified in the pictures. This one was not as thin, so it was easier to apply. This kind of pale color can sometimes be a PITA, so I was happy to see that the formula was pretty nice!

China Glaze Pack Lightly is a pale pinky peach with pink gold shimmer. Pack Lightly manages to look bright and pastel at the same time. It's soft, but not too washed out looking. Sometimes with peach polish, it just blends too much with my skin, but this has a bit of brightness to it. Again, I think the golden shimmer is more noticeable in person.

If I was pleasantly surprised with the formula of Dashboard Dreamer, I was sadly let down by Pack Lightly. This is actually four coats of color. I did three coats and it was still very streaky looking. So I did a layer of matte top coat and then a fourth coat of color. This is a great trick to deal with streaky polishes, by the way. The first coat of Pack Lightly was also very very sheer, so you will most likely need three coats. The consistency was thin, so you will need to watch out for cuticle flooding.

*Purchased by me*

One more note about the formula of all three of these- I would wipe off the brush normally and start painting and after one or two strokes, a huge amount of polish would come rushing down from the brush handle. I tried wiping off the handle too, and it seemed to help a bit, but it still happened. I think this has to do with how thin the polishes are, the polish doesn't stay up on the plastic part, it just comes avalanching down.

I LOVE these three colors for spring. I wish that Sun's Up Top Down and Pack Lightly were less thin and streaky, but I know I will still wear them this spring because they are such gorgeous colors. I got my China Glaze Road Trip polishes on head2toebeauty.com.

Completing my Lynnderella Fall in Love with New York Collection!

*Lynnderella Flat Irony purchased by me, Nolita Lolita sent for review*

The Lynnderella Fall in Love with New York collection is definitely one of my favorite Lynnderella collections of all time. I recently got the only polish in the collection that I was missing (Nolita Lolita) and I have swatches of that and Lynnderella Flat Irony to show you today. Flat Irony is a rusty red microglitter with a kind of sheer black jellyish base. Lynnderella describes it as a "burnt red orange microglitter with a subtle blackened base". The sparkle in Flat Irony is gorgeous!! The orange-y red microglitter looks like glowing embers in the smoky black base. If the other microglitters in this collection hadn't already made me love microglitter, Flat Irony would!

This is three coats of Flat Irony with no undies. It was completely opaque in two coats, but I did a third to make sure my camera didn't cause any shenanigans. I would wear this at just two coats. I used one coat of Essie Good to Go on top and it felt smooth and glossy. The formula is probably the best of any microglitter I have tried. So easy to apply. Look at that glow!

Lynnderella Nolita Lolita was the one polish from this collection that I didn't want at first. Not that it wasn't pretty, but I just don't wear pink very much. After swatching it today, however, I immediately put it on as a full mani! This is such a pretty mix of pink glitters- pale pink satin glitters, bright pink matte glitter, metallic pink glitters, flower shapes, circles, etc.! The clear base also contains really beautiful pink shimmer that adds a lot to this glitter topper. You can see that shimmer best in the last photo taken in the shade.

This is one coat of Nolita Lolita over Nicole by OPI Something About Spring. Nolita Lolita was easy to apply with the dabbing method. It has lots of larger glitters and they were easy to get on the nail with dabbing. This is a really fun mani for the middle of January!

Both of the Lynnderellas are in the core collection, meaning they are available for purchase right now, no bidding/auctions etc. You can find these at lynnderella.com or lynnderella.storenvy.com. OPI Fifty Shades of Grey Collection Swatches and Review

 *Sent for review*

I have three categories of books that I typically like to read. 1. Young adult fiction, like the Harry Potter or Percy Jackson books. 2. Adult action/adventure fiction with a little history/science thrown in there (think Clive Cussler, Steve Berry). 3. Cat mysteries. So it's pretty obvious that I have never read Fifty Shades of Grey, nor do I intend to see the movie. However, I can still rock the OPI Fifty Shades of Grey nail polish collection being released to tie in with the upcoming movie. First up in the collection, we have OPI My Silk Tie, a light metallic silver. My Silk Tie is a bit paler than some of the silver metallics we've seen OPI do recently. I reach for metallic silvers quite often, so I never mind having another one myself.

This is three coats of My Silk Tie. I thought it was less pigmented than OPI's other recent metallic silvers. The first coat was very sheer and I really did need the third coat for full opacity. The formula is a good consistency and easy to apply, but does have some visible brushstrokes that are hard to avoid with a metallic finish like this.

OPI Dark Side of the Mood turned out to be more unique than I was expecting. It actually has some very pretty hidden shimmer that you can see in sunlight and brighter indoor lighting! I thought it was just a dark charcoal creme, but it's a dark, almost asphalt grey with smooth ribbons of shimmer that make it more interesting.

This is three coats of Dark Side of the Mood. This also had a nice consistency and was easy to apply, but again, I felt like I needed three coats for full opacity.

OPI Romantically Involved is a lovely squishy true red creme. Heaven knows I don't ever need another red creme, especially since I only wear them around Christmas, but this one is so pretty! It's a real red, not too pink or orange leaning. And it's a creme, but it has that juicy quality that I love. If you're looking for a new red creme for Valentine's Day, you can't go wrong with this one!

This is just two coats and the formula was excellent. Really lovely to work with!

A Fifty Shades of Grey collection wouldn't be complete without some more grey cremes, and OPI Embrace the Gray is a slightly warm-toned medium grey creme. I like these warmer greys, so I am a fan of this one. It's probably not unique in my collection though.

This is three coats of Embrace the Gray. The formula was OK, but I noticed it looks a little uneven in places, almost like it didn't level out. That's strange for OPI, so it could have been my pre-coffee application skills. Any bubbles you see are from my top coat. I really need a new top coat for swatching!

OPI Cement the Deal is the lightest grey in the collection and my favorite of the three greys. It reminds me of seagulls and the beach before a storm in the summer! I can see myself wearing this pale storm cloud grey creme a lot and I might need to get a full size bottle!

This is just two coats of Cement the Deal. I was expecting to need three coats, since this was the palest of the bunch, but it was nicely pigmented! The formula was lovely too, easy to control and apply. Again, the pesky bubbles are from my top coat. I promise this is the last time that will happen. I am going shopping for a new swatching top coat ASAP.

OPI Shine For Me is a sheer silver shimmer with blue glitter that makes a gorgeous topper for any of the grey cremes in the collection! It's nicely sparkly and I love the touches of blue glitter.

This is two coats of Shine For Me over Cement the Deal. You could wear Shine For Me alone, but I think you'd still have a lot of VNL at three, even four coats. Besides, I really love how it looks over Cement the Deal! Shine For Me was really easy to apply, no placing the glitter or messing around with it.

My favorite of this collection is OPI Cement the Deal and I really like the combo of Shine For Me over Cement the Deal. Even if you are not a fan of the book, this is a nice little polish collection. If you love grey cremes like I do, it's especially nice! The OPI Fifty Shades of Grey collection is available now for a limited time at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Chatters, Dillard’s, Regis, ULTA and ulta.com. Fifty Shades of Grey will be in theaters on Valentine's Day weekend.
