OPI Shatter the Scales Semi-Fail

Sometimes I try little nail experiments and they fail. But I'm fine with that because nail polish is easily removable and you can always start all over again with something new. In this case, I was experimenting with the best way to apply OPI Shatter the Scales, the gorgeous shimmering deep forest green shatter polish from OPI The Amazing Spider-Man. In these pictures, I am wearing one layer of Shatter the Scales over two coats of OPI Your Royal Shine-ness.

On my pointer finger (above), I tried just applying Shatter the Scales in a normal three-stroke fashion. For some reason, it crackled only on the sides and left a big un-shattered area in the center. I don't think this shattered as well as other OPI Shatters, like Super Bass. I also tried this over OPI Just Spotted the Lizard and had the same problem.

On my middle nail, I tried my signature "blobbing" method for applying shatters. If you have a crackle or shatter polish that just won't shatter, give blobbing a go. You just blob your brush on in spots all over the nail. It looks pretty cool like this!! Next time, I will do the blobbing method on all of my nails.

For the last two nails, I wanted to try using top coat over OPI Your Royal Shine-ness before applying Shatter the Scales. Sometimes with glittery polish, this makes the shatter polish work better. However, that was NOT the case here, as you can see. Shatter the Scales did not want to shatter over Zoya Armor. Now, maybe it wasn't 100% dry, but it seemed dry to me. Next time I wear Shatter the Scales I will blob it on over another polish and just finish it all off with top coat. I'll definitely be showing you this shatter again, just better next time!

OPI Shatter the Scales and the other shades in the Amazing Spider-Man collection should be available now at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for  $8.50 ($9.95 CAN) suggested retail for each Nail Lacquer.

I know Armor takes a while to dry, so maybe it would work better over a fast drying top coat?
