Interesting Nail News

I stumbled across this news the other day- L'Oreal has purchased Essie. You can read the full article here on Style List. It's pretty interesting, they're talking about having a line of Essie cosmetics, like lip glosses, etc. I kind of always liked that Essie was a smallish company run by Essie herself. How do you feel about this news? Do you want to see Essie expand as a brand? Do you think L'Oreal is going to ruin the brand's classy feel?

When you're done reading that article, click "get the latest tips here" for more interesting nail news. Sonia Kashuk is doing a line of polish for Target (including at HOT looking silver) and Nicole by OPI is going to have some exclusive polishes at Walmart. I think I'm going to look for that Sonia Kashuk silver today!

L'Oreal is on the bad companies list for cruelty to animals testing on them and Essie is on the good list for not testing on animals so that muddys up the waters for Essie.

I'm not too big on L'Oreal and I know a lot of other aren't either. They are big into animal testing if I remember correctly and while I'm not sure about Essie's practices I can bet people won't be pleased. I liked that they were a small company but after the hike up to $8 a bottle on all e-tailers I was calling it quits on them already.

Good point peripatetic. From now on, I don't think it's safe to assume that Essie polishes are not tested on animals. I'm surprised that Essie would do this.

l0verlada- I feel like a price drop should be in order now that L'Oreal owns the brand, don't you? I wonder if it's going to be available at drugstores now?

Thanks for your thoughts ladies.

I'm not thrilled about this at all. I'm not a huge fan of L'Oreal or their practices when it comes to animal testing, so I'm pretty bummed out about this. I have about five Essies on my wish list and I plan to acquire them ASAP, but after that I'll stick to OPI.

Same here nailpolishaddict. I want to pick up Turquoise and Caicos and maybe one other, but after that I think I'm going to leave Essie alone. It's not like Essie was ever my favorite brand anyway.

Of course, L'Oreal was planning to stop animal testing after 2013 already. But it's sad how small, high quality companies get swallowed up by bigger, more widely known ones.
