NOTD: Zoya Marilyn

Just a quick post about my evolving NOTD this week, featuring Zoya Marilyn. Marilyn is an icy pink-white with lots of pretty shimmer. It's a really pale pink, the kind that usually is streaky. However, Zoya does an excellent job with their pale colors, resulting in a smooth, streak-free finish. This is three coats, but two coats is pretty opaque in person. This polish is a more flattering way to wear an almost white color in the summer. I think the healthy does of shimmer really makes it stand out.

I've been kind of searching for a pale pale pink like this for awhile now, so I'm glad I found Marilyn. I wore it on it's on for two days and then got my usual bout of polish A.D.D.

So I added China Glaze Crushed Candy! I have to say, this looked fantastic in real life. The pink really glows underneath Crushed Candy. It looks really spring-y and fresh. I'm still wearing it now and do not intend to remove it until it starts to chip and look bad LOL.

Zoya Marilyn is available online at Zoya. China Glaze Crushed Candy is available online at Victoria's Nail Supply.

Another Shatter NOTD- Tell Me if You're Sick of These!!!

Seriously, you need to tell me if you're getting tired of Shatter looks, because I just can't stop!!! I guess if you're going to be addicted to something, Shatter is probably a pretty OK addiction. It's not really bad for your health or safety in any way. Today I'm sporting OPI White Shatter over Zoya Dannii from the Spring 2011 Intimate collection (an amazing collection, I'm still not over it's greatness).

my favorite nail

I always end up with a favorite nail when I use shatter/crackle polish. Am I the only one, or does that happen to you too? Anyway, my middle nail on my left hand was my favorite this time. I love that giant crack down the middle and the cool zig-zaggy one near the cuticle end of the nail. Shattering just provides me with endless excitement. I have a never-ending collection of shatter and nail color combinations in my head right now. I'm enjoying this combo too much to take it off though. But next I think I'd like to try OPI Silver Shatter and Zoya Gemma from the Intimate collection. Wouldn't that be cool? Or OPI Red Shatter and Zoya Tanzy from the Summer 2011 collection!! Any Shatter combos that you would like to see? Let me know, I take requests!

OPI White Shatter and Zoya Dannii were both sent to me for review by PR agents of OPI and Zoya. For more information, please see my Disclosure Policy.

Newly Obsessed: OPI Serena Glam Slam Rally Pretty Pink and Red Shatter!

OPI Rally Pretty Pink under OPI Red Shatter

I finally have pictures of the second OPI Serena Williams Glam Slam set, Rally Pretty Pink and Red Shatter. One reason why it's taken me so long to swatch these is that I wasn't feeling the color combo. I HATE red and pink together. So, I thought I would hate this duo...

OPI Rally Pretty Pink

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE this duo!!! Each polish is a reason alone to buy the set. Rally Pretty Pink is a beautiful sparkly metallic pink with loads of gold shine. The gold shine is much more prominent in real life than it is in these pictures. It was an unfortunately cloudy and gross day.

OPI Rally Pretty Pink

This is three coats of Rally Pretty Pink. It flowed nicely onto the nail and covered evenly. I still had some VNL at two coats, so that's why I did the third. But, it dries pretty quickly, so no big deal there. This color has been compared to Zoya Faye, but I think this is more pink, while Faye is more purple-y. I'll definitely be posting comparisons though. Rally Pretty Pink is a gorgeous to color to wear all alone, but....

OPI Rally Pretty Pink

I think it rocks even harder with a coat of OPI Red Shatter! Ahhhhhhhh I love Red Shatter so much it's not even funny!!!!!! It's like a red jelly! I LOVE that OPI gave us a jelly shatter, it looks SO cool in person. The red over Rally Pretty Pink brings out all of the gold in RPP, so it doesn't look like red over pink.

OPI Rally Pretty Pink under OPI Red Shatter

For a duo I thought I would hate, I am so obsessed!! I can't wait to wear this as a full mani! I'd be rocking it right now, but I don't have time to finish the 6 unpainted nails LOL. Probably tomorrow, or maybe even tonight, I'll wear this on all ten nails. It's just so cool looking! Basically, all of the Shatters OPI just released are a total WIN if you like shatter. If you don't like shatters, I still really recommend trying Silver Shatter, Red Shatter, or Turquoise Shatter.

OPI Serena Glam Slam with Spark de Triomphe

OPI Spark de Triomphe

Sorry it's taken me such a long time to post the OPI Glam Slam sets! I intended to do this post during a free hour last week, but Blogger was down (boo hiss Blogger!). And that was my only free hour until now, so I do apologize! I'll have the second set up early next week.

OPI Spark de Triomphe

Anyway, I'm sure you've seen OPI Spark de Triomphe, described as "a monumentally marvelous silver glitter", and it's companion White Shatter already, but I have a different twist on the duo today.

OPI Spark de Triomphe

Spark de Triomphe is kind of a warm silver, or maybe a cool gold glitter polish with lots of small glitter pieces and a good smattering of medium-sized glitter pieces. This is three coats of Spark in all pictures, by the way. I have read bloggers comparing it to China Glaze Medallion (a Never Enough Nails favorite!), but it's quite different. For one, Medallion is a very warm-toned yellow gold, so if you have a cool skin tone, you may prefer Spark de Triomphe. Also, Medallion contains medium-sized holographic glitter pieces, which give it a rainbow-y effect that Spark does not have. Both are gorgeous glitters, and I am quite happy to own both, let me know if you'd like comparison pics.

OPI Spark de Triomphe under OPI White Shatter, no topcoat

OPI Spark de Triomphe under OPI White Shatter, no topcoat

White Shatter is a white creme shatter polish. It shatters very well and is easy to apply, like all of the other OPI shatters I have tried. White Shatter dries to a matte-ish finish, kind of chalk-like. I like it with no top coat actually! It looks great with Spark de Triomphe underneath. This is really a great combo, and I'll definitely wear it as a full mani sometime. Edited to add: This combo seems to work best if you do your two/three coats of Spark, then a clear top coat. Allow to dry completely before applying White Shatter. White Shatter cracks apart better over the top coat than just the glitter.

However, the first full mani I did with Spark de Triomphe was this one:

And I used White Shatter for an accent nail!

I LOVED this mani, although it looked a little Hanukkah-esque. If you're looking for a great holiday mani this coming season, though, here you are! I'm just starting early LOL :). For my full thoughts on Blue Shatter, go here.

NOTD: OPI Pirates Skittles!

I just thought I'd show you what I'm wearing on my nails right now, since I'm having a lot of fun with it. I'm wearing all 6 OPI Pirates of the Caribbean colors, with OPI Silver Shatter on top! That's Steady As She Rose on my thumb, and then left to right: Mermaid's Tears, Sparrow Me The Drama, Stranger Tides, and Planks A Lot, all two coats with one coat of Silver Shatter. You can't see Skull and Glossbones, but I'm wearing it on the thumb of my right hand. I love these polishes so much and they look fabulous together! This is my favorite mani I've done in a looooonnnggg time!

If you haven't seen my full review of the OPI Pirates collection, read it here. Also, don't forget about the two giveaways I have going on now. One for a $25 gift card to Apothica.com, where you can purchase Deborah Lippman polish (along with SpaRitual and other polish brands). Enter Here. OPI's Blue Shatters Give New Meaning to Feeling Blue!!!!

OPI Navy Shatter over OPI Tangerine Scene

The next time you're "feeling blue", slap on one of OPI's new Blue Shatters, in Navy Shatter, Blue Shatter, or Turquoise Shatter! These three certainly cheered me right up today!

I wasn't sure if three new shatters would put me on shatter/crackle overload, but the answer is most definitely NO! OPI keeps their shatters fresh by playing with texture and finish. While the vast majority of other brands' shatters/crackles are creme finish, OPI has now given us a foil shatter (Silver), a jelly/creme shatter (Navy), a Satin shatter (Blue), and a shimmer shatter (Turquoise). And now for the pretty pictures!!!

OPI Navy Shatter over OPI Tangerine Scene

First up we have OPI Navy Shatter. I decided to layer this over a bright, but not neon, orange, OPI Tangerine Scene (two coats). I thought these colors would really pop together, and I think I was right! I love this combination personally. I will definitely be wearing this as a full mani very soon. Navy Shatter is a kind of combination jelly/creme finish. It's very thin feeling, like a jelly, but dries more opaque than a jelly would. I love the texture of this, it made it very easy to apply. It felt much thinner than other crackles I have worked with.

Navy Shatter shattered very nicely and I love the way it came out. These were kind of medium-thick coats, so you can see quite a bit of the base color. Again, I'm sure if you did thin coats, you would see less base color. One thing to note: see my pointer finger? I didn't really let the base color dry completely before putting on Navy Shatter (I was too excited) and when the shattering action happened, it actually pulled some of the Tangerine Scene away from that little patch there. Weird, isn't it??? I guess that's why you have to let the base color dry completely!!! Read the directions people (unlike me...)! This little patch also wasn't this obvious to my naked eye, so I went ahead and took 40 million pictures of it. DOH!

OPI Blue Shatter over OPI La Paz-itively Hot Matte

OPI Blue Shatter over OPI La Paz-itively Hot Matte

Wow... OPI Blue Shatter is so gorgeous I think it deserves a better name than just "Blue Shatter". Like, "Shatter of the Gods", perhaps? Blue Shatter is a glowing medium blue color than dries to a satin finish. It reminded me of the finish of the matte shimmer, La Paz-itively Hot matte, so I decided to pair them together. WHOA! I wish you could see this in person. It's like radioactive or something. La Paz is a hot pink with a little blue duochrome and Blue Shatter is this hot(ish) blue with a bit of pink flash in the bottle, so together they are super bright and beautiful.

Blue Shatter was, like Navy Shatter, thinner than other crackle polishes I've used. I think this lets you play around with the thin/thickness of your coats more, resulting in different cracking effects. I definitely like this ability to customize your crackle. Plus, the thinness makes this easier to apply. This time, I let my base color dry all the way, and I had no troubles with the base pulling away. I can't wait to wear this in the summer! This just says "HOT" to me!

OPI Turquoise Shatter over OPI Take The Stage, sunlight

Ahhhh I saved the best for last!!! OPI Turquoise Shatter, will you marry me?? Turquoise Shatter is THE way to do shatter with shimmer. The shimmer finish is super strong and beautiful (look at those pictures of it in the sun!). This particular shade of turquoise is also amazing!! I can't think of a regular polish that is this exact color, but I would love to find one if you can think of a good match! This is the perfect mix of green and blue (not too blue, not too green) and it's so bright!

OPI Turquoise Shatter over OPI Take The Stage, sunlight

You definitely need to click on these pictures and enlarge them. Do feel free to drool. I paired Turquoise Shatter with OPI Take the Stage, a copper foil-y shimmer from the Burlesque Collection. I love the color combo, but Turquoise Shatter would also really pop over something more plain, like white, black or navy blue. It's definitely beautiful enough to be the center of attention. Application on this was just like the other two, very easy due to the thin nature of the polish. I did a thick coat on my pointer finger and thinner on my ring finger so you could see the difference. I prefer the thick coat myself, although this looks fabulous no matter what!

Please let me know if you want to see these three Shatters over any specific colors. Leave me a note in the comments, or shoot me an email. I'd be happy to oblige! As far as I know, these three polishes will be released later in May, but I'm trying to pin that release date down a bit better for you. These will be available at the usual places, Ulta, Trade Secret, etc.
