My Picks from OPI Mexico City Spring/Summer 2020!

Today I have my picks from the OPI Mexico City collection for you! My OPI purchases have definitely dwindled in the last few years. The collections seem repetitive sometimes when you have a very large polish collection. However, they are still my favorite mainstream brand and as the brand that got me into nail polish, I always check out their latest releases and grab any I am interested in. I picked up three polishes from Mexico City and I really love them! First up we have OPI Don't Tell a Sol, a bright canary yellow creme. I love this one, it packs a bright punch, but also has a touch of softness to it. It somehow reminds me of banana pudding, or maybe lemon creme pie. Something delicious for sure! Bright yellow is always a perfect cheery color for spring and summer, so this was a must have for me.
This was three coats of Don't Tell a Sol. I don't think it's OPI's best formula in a yellow creme, but it wasn't bad. It was a bit streaky, so definitely wait in between coats to avoid that. I did need the third coat to cover any VNL, but if you do thicker coats or have shorter nails, you may be fine with two carefully applied coats. All swatches in this post have one layer of quick drying top coat for shine.
I'll be honest with you, I really only bought OPI My Chihuahua Doesn't Bite Anymore because I thought the name was cute. I like how they took the old name (My Chihuahua Bites) and gave it a twist for a new collection. OPI calls this an orange, but it's a bright coral orange-y red creme. It has a lot of red in it, not a straight orange at all. I love corals- any variety of coral. Orange corals, pink corals, red corals, you name it, I love it. I'm really happy I picked this up and it makes the most perfect summer pedicure color (it's on my toes right now!).
This is two easy coats. The formula was great, perfect to apply and nicely opaque. The formula is that perfect OPI consistency that has made the brand a favorite of mine for SO many years.
OPI Verde Nice to Meet You is probably the star of the collection for me personally. This is a beautiful sea green creme that just screams summer. It reminds me of tropical turquoise waters, the kind I won't be seeing this summer, thank you Coronavirus.

This is two coats and the formula was very nice. Good pigmentation, no issues with application. If I had to recommend one polish from Mexico City, it would be this one.

Did you pick up any polishes from the Mexico City collection or do you plan on getting any? I am really happy with these three. I have my eye on about 5 or 6 from the fall Milan collection as well. I'm not quite ready for fall yet, but I'll be ordering them soon!

OPI Mexico City is available now on OPI.com and wherever OPI is sold near you.

My Picks from Essie Spring 2020!

*All products in this post purchased by me*

Hi everyone! Hope you are all surviving whatever level of Jumanji we're on these days 😂. Today I have my picks from the Essie Spring 2020 collection. I haven't been buying a lot of Essie polishes for a long time now, but the last few of their collections have been really beautiful so that had to change! I also picked up a few from the Summer 2020 collection and have plans to grab some from the newest collections- Sunset Soiree and Sunny Business. First up today is Essie Spring in Your Step, a gorgeous pinky-purple with a reddish pink shimmer. The shimmer is the real key to this polish, it's so smooth and really stands out in the light. Essie Playdate has been a favorite of mine for years, and this is it's shimmering cousin. This kind of purple has well balanced undertones and will look great on a wide variety of skin tones.

OK so remember I said I haven't purchased any new Essies in a long time? Well I completely forgot that they got a new wide brush awhile ago! I was SOOOOOO pleasantly surprised when I uncapped the bottle and saw the perfectly shaped wider brush. I used to hate the skinny little brushes! The new wider brush made application an absolute breeze. This was two easy coats, no need for clean-up. This will definitely be one of my go-to polishes for fast, no fuss application.

Essie Feeling Wellies is the polish that really inspired me to buy these polishes! As soon as I saw pictures of this unique pale mango creme, I knew I needed it! I love yellow and orange polishes, and this is a great pastel mix of both. It reminds me of summery things, like creamsicles and fruity frozen drinks. It will look amazing with a tan (not that I ever get one 😆). I can't think of anything resembling this in my sizable collection of pastel oranges and yellows!

Best part about this? It's opaque in 2-3 coats and has no streaks like some pale colors! I did 3 thin coats, but I tend to apply everything in very thin layers and need 3 coats almost all the time. It was pretty opaque in 2, even for me. Again, no clean-up needed, thanks to the perfectly shaped brush!

Essie Can Dew Attitude is a soft sage green creme. I am always interested in greens of all varieties, so I had to grab this one. I have other pale sage greens, but I think this one is more white based and less dusty than the others I can think of. It almost has that "mod" feel like some light pastels. A great pop of fresh green!

This was two easy coats. It was very opaque and had the same effortless application as the other two, and, as you can see, no streaks in sight. I'm really feeling this new brush, I may have to buy a lot more Essies in the future!

Are any new Essies catching your eye? I'll have my picks from Summer 2020 up for you soon too.

I ordered these three beauties from 8ty8beauty.com. If you've never ordered from 8ty8Beauty, they are great. I have ordered from them for years. Fast shipping and everything is well packaged so they arrive safely. These are sold out a lot of other places, so if you're looking for them, I see they are still in stock!

Zoya Calm Spring 2020 Swatches & Review!

*Sent for review*

Zoya couldn't have picked a better name for their Spring 2020 collection. I'd say the entire world could use more than a little bit of Calm right now. If binging Tiger King isn't helping you stay calm, check out these polishes in various soothing spring colors. Let's start off with Zoya Colleen, a beautiful warm peachy pink creme. I have been hunting for a polish just like this that isn't sheer and I'm pleased to say this hits the spot! Colleen is a completely opaque pale peach that doesn't look chalky, just creamy. This is a perfect spring polish alone or with some beautiful floral nail art added on top.

I did three thin coats of Colleen, but two medium coats would also be full coverage, depending on your polishing style. It's nice and smooth with no streaks and was easy to apply. All swatches in this post are shown with one layer of glossy top coat.

You already know that Zoya Emerson is my favorite of the collection. Blue polish forever 💙. This pastel blue creme has hints of periwinkle and maybe even a tinge of gray too, making it more complex than a standard baby blue creme. I own three Helmer drawers full of blue polish and I can't find one exactly like this and I'm loving it! It's pale but also bright if that makes sense. An instant spring classic.

This was two coats of Emerson. Even though I would typically do a third coat out of habit, I finished the second coat and there was no need for a third. Lovely formula, fully opaque and nary a streak in sight, despite being a pastel creme.

Zoya Leif is a lovely light green creme with some slate gray tones. It comes across as more neutral than a mint green creme would be and more wearable I think for many people. This was the base color for my St. Patrick's Day mani. This is a very soothing color for me and I think I'll be wearing this again sometime soon.

I did three thin coats of Leif. It's very opaque, not a hint of sheerness or patchiness. The formula is lovely and easy to apply.

Zoya AJ is a really interesting color. It's a pale blush base with copper shimmer flecks. It has a great sheen to it and up close you can really see the copper flecks sparkling. I really like the contrast between the smooth pink base color and the gleaming bits of golden coppery sparkle.

This was two coats of AJ. Excellent formula. Colors like this tend to have very visible brushstrokes and I mostly managed to avoid having them here!

Zoya Laura is described as a "soft, pink-toned ivory cream". I see a lot of the ivory tones on myself and a bit less of the pink, although they are definitely there. This could be a really stunning neutral polish for someone, just not sure it's the best on my skin tone. If you've been looking for a more yellow toned neutral with a slight hint of pink, Laura's your girl.

Three thin coats and so smooth! Zoya has really perfected the art of having very opaque pale/pastel cremes that aren't streaky and uneven. Many brands still struggle with this, so hats off to you Zoya.

Zoya Vee is a very pretty muted purple creme. This is a sophisticated work-friendly purple, not a flashy, loud purple. It feels like a classic neutral, but the dusty warm lilac shade is more interesting and feels fresh for spring.

This was two easy coats and great formula. Vee was very opaque, so if you do thick coats, you may have a one-coater on your hands.

As an aside, the box this collection came in is SO pretty! I love the white and the bottles dripping with polish! I also LOVE that Zoya personalized it with my Instagram name! Thanks Zoya, I feel so special!

My top favorites from this collection are Emerson and Leif, but I really enjoyed the whole collection. Very wearable, pretty spring colors and easy to apply formulas all around!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

*Products sent for review*

What a strange St. Patrick's Day this is for me. The first time I've been home on this day in probably 28 years. But I had to do some nails to celebrate no matter what. This is Zoya Leif with Zoya Veruschka shamrocks created with nail vinyls. Leif is from the Zoya Spring 2020 Calm collection and I'll have full swatches and review of that later this week. We could all use some calm right now I think!

Zoya Leif is available now at zoya.com.
