OPI New York City Ballet SoftShades and The Walking Dead

What does OPI's new New York City Ballet SoftShades collection have to do with AMC's hit show, The Walking Dead? Absolutely nothing, but I'll tell you the weird thoughts my brain was having about the two later in this post. For now, let's talk about OPI Care to Danse? Care to Danse? is a pale lavender pink sheer jelly. I love the hint of lavender in this, it really sets it apart from other pink sheers. It also makes this polish cooler toned than some traditional pink sheers.

This is three coats of Care to Danse?. The OPI SoftShades polishes are always sheer, so that is to be expected here. Care to Danse? applied really well otherwise. Somehow OPI manages to make these shades non-streaky, despite their paleness.

OPI You Callin' Me A Lyre? is a warm-toned sheer pink jelly. I think this is more of a traditional sheer pink than the lavender Care To Danse?. Sheer pinks like You Callin' Me A Lyre? always make nails look so healthy and naturally beautiful. If you have a job that doesn't allow you to wear polish, this is a way to make your nails look beautiful without looking like you're wearing polish.

This is three coats of You Callin' Me A Lyre?. Great application and streak-free finish. By the way, I am not wearing base coat OR top coat in ANY of these pictures. These SoftShades have a super shiny finish all by themselves.

OPI Barre My Soul is a creamy pink-white sheer jelly. This reminds me of milk with just the teeniest bit of strawberry syrup. Again, this polish makes nails look healthy and so shiny.

This is also three coats of Barre My Soul and even though this was a bit more pigmented than the first two, still no streaks or problems.

OPI Don't Touch My Tutu is a sheer milky white jelly. Look at that shine!! I didn't use top coat in these swatches because there just was no need for it! I like this sheer white, it's soft and pretty.

I'm sure you'll tire of me saying this, but this is three coats and I had no application/formula problems!

OMG MY FAVORITE and now it's time for The Walking Dead story. OPI My Pointe Exactly is a sheer GRAY JELLY!!! This polish is SO COOL and different. Maybe it's because The Walking Dead season finale was on Sunday, but when I put My Pointe Exactly on, all I could think is that this is what a formerly glam person turned walker's nails could look like. Like if you had a sheer white-pink on when you turned, then when you're a zombie it looks like this! Three coats of this gray jelly just give your nails this spooky, cloudy tint that is pretty, but kind of unhealthy looking at the same time. Kind of weird, so naturally I LOVE IT.

Three coats and great application, par for the course!

OPI Pirouette My Whistle is an excellent glitter top coat. It contains lots of teeny tiny silver sparkles and these cool pale pale silver hex pieces. They are such a pale silver, they're almost white. It's kind of ethereal looking and definitely awesome. I can't wait to wear Pirouette My Whistle over dark colors or maybe brights too!

In these pictures, I am wearing two coats of OPI Pirouette My Whistle over three coats of OPI My Pointe Exactly. I am wearing this combo as a full mani right now and I'm loving it. I've been wearing lots of crazy colors lately and this is just what I needed to soften up for a few days. But it still has glitter, so I'm not bored! You do have to coax the hex glitter out of the bottle a little bit for this polish, but it wasn't too difficult.

Overall, I think this collection has more gems than the SoftShades collection usually does. My Must Haves are Pirouette My Whistle and My Pointe Exactly. Can you imagine all of the sick glitter sandwiches you could do with a sheer gray jelly?!? If you don't already own a soft sheer pink or white, you should also pick up one of the other colors. It's definitely a good thing to have around for times when colors just aren't appropriate. Care To Danse? is a good choice, as the lavender tones make it a bit different.
