Polish Con Wrap Up + What I Bought!!

Happy Monday!! Over the weekend I was lucky to attend Polish Con 2017 in Brooklyn and I have about a million pictures for you in case you couldn't be there! Polish Con took place at a pretty cool venue called the Grand Prospect Hall. It is a former concert hall/ballroom built in 1903 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. When you first walked in, there was a huge grand staircase (pictured above) leading up to the convention. I felt like Leo DiCaprio in Titanic gazing up the staircase at Rose, only I was gazing up towards polish nirvana!

The hall itself was gorgeous, with lots of cool details. It must have been THE place to go back in the day. I loved these cool balconies with intricate detailing (below).

Me cheesing with my Polish Con bag ^. The lighting was a bit dim in the room, which added to the ambiance, but made it hard sometimes to see the polish. Luckily, most makers had lights to help you see what you were buying, so I didn't find it to be that bad!

Dave from Octopus Party Nail Lacquer had this adorable octopus on his table! He is so nice and I was very happy to meet him in person finally! I did take a picture of him at his table, but it's super dark. I posted it on Instagram anyway if you'd like to see. The makers all had amazing looking displays on their tables, I took pictures of some of my favorites, but also missed some great ones!

And here I am, exhausted at the end of the con! That bag on my shoulder weighs about 2 tons and my mom had a bag as well! Overall, I thought the day was fabulous. Polish Con was very well organized and everyone was so friendly. The makers had lots of stock for the most part, so even though I only had general admission tickets, I was able to get nearly all of the Polish Con exclusives that I wanted. When GA people were first let in, it was a little crazy and hard to see things at tables, but it settled down a little later and there was still plenty of polish left for all!

This is everything that came home with me. I muled for two lovely ladies I have known for awhile, so not all of this is mine. Someone had to help me unpack all of this too!

Below you can see everything I picked up. I did not go with a specific budget. I don't know when I will be able to attend something like this again, so I just bought whatever I was drawn to and I don't think I overdid it. There are some new to me brands in here, so I'm so excited to try them and show you them here! Time to get swatching!

The next Polish Con will take place in September (I think they said the 23rd) at a venue near Navy Pier in Chicago. I would love to go again! Did you go to the con this weekend? Or are you planning to go to Chicago?

Ow!

Hi lovelies, I just wanted to let you know that I fractured a bone in my right hand. This is making polishing and blogging very hard and time consuming, hence why I have yet to post the rest of the pretty OPI SoftShades. I actually swatched and photographed them, but cropping the pics and typing is so slow. I will have those up this weekend, but it may be kinda slow around here for a bit!

A Short Blogging Vacation

Hi all! Just wanted to let you know why it's been a bit quiet with swatches around here the last few days. Last week, my middle nail on my swatching hand had an unfortunate meeting with a razor. I am anxiously waiting for it to grow out a bit so that I can make my nails an even length. I have the Zoya Ignite and Entice collections sitting on my dresser and I'm DYING to swatch them, but I want to do them justice. So, hang in there and I will be back as soon as possible!!

Never Enough Nails Stash Shots!

I've never done a post about how my collection is organized and stored, but I just bought my 2nd Ikea Helmer and figured I would share some pictures. I have my polishes sorted by color, because I usually have some vague idea of what color I'd like to wear next. Like, I'll be in the mood for a purple. My 12 Helmer drawers are: red, orange/yellow, green, green/blue, blue, purple, purple/gray/taupe/white/black, pink, metallics, multi-colored glitters, Lynnderellas, untrieds. Within each color drawer, I have brands grouped together. At the front of each drawer is OPI, NOPI, and SOPI (simply because I have the most of those usually). Then the orders change depending on the color, but usually next is China Glaze, Zoya, or Essie. Then drugstore brands like Sally Hansen, then indies and random HE brands. The first picture is my red drawer, I was happy to see I have room to grow in that drawer with about 45 reds.

Above is my orange/yellow drawer. I have about 43 oranges and 18 yellows. I say about because I was counting pretty roughly and I was also arranging things after taking these pictures, so I may actually have more!

This is my precious green drawer. As you can see, it's pretty full with 80 greens, so I do have an empty drawer (not pictured) that will be green/blue overflow when that is needed. Below is my also pretty full blue drawer (84 blues). I'll be needing that overflow drawer soon!

Next up is purple and I was not surprised to find out I have more purples than any other color, although not by much. I have 85 purples (pretty close to blue). Not much room here either!

This next drawer will be overflow for purple soon, and also contains grays, taupes, browns, blacks, and whites. I have about 37 of these. I added several more to this drawer after taking these pictures, so it might be closer to 40.

Next up is the pink drawer, with 65 polishes. This drawer probably needs a purge, as I rarely wear pink. I basically refuse to ever give it a second drawer.

Then we have one of my favorite drawers, the metallic drawer! This includes golds, silvers, coppers, etc. This drawer also has glitters that are obviously one metallic color (i.e. a silver glitter in a clear base). I have about 65 metallics. Golds and coppers went at the front, silvers at the back. I tend to wear the warmer metallics more often.

Now we have a pretty small drawer, but I think it'll keep filling up. This is the multi-colored glitter drawer. This drawer is for glitters that have too many colors for me to figure out where to put them. Some of these are indies, others are RBL, Wet n Wild, etc. I counted 31 here, but then I think I added more after counting. We'll go with 31!

Next we have my Lynnderella drawer. Don't hate, it's my Helmer, and I wanted them to have their own drawer. The front section is organized by color, starting with red. Behind the makeshift divider are Lynnderellas I haven't tried yet.

The 12th drawer is my untrieds drawer and it was a bit messy looking, so I just didn't feel like taking a picture. I have 34 polishes in there, but I also have some various nail art supplies that I haven't posted on the blog yet and some polish stickers/appliques.

My neutrals, some pale pinks and pale grays all reside in a separate box in my mom's room. There are probably about 50 in that box. I'll have to take pictures of that some day! So all in all, I have something like 690 polishes. Not too bad, I was assuming it was almost 700, so I was right on the money! Let me know if you see any polish in this box that you haven't seen on here and want swatched!

Smitten Polish ERMAHGERD Candy Corms, plus Hurricanes, Flying Squirrels, and Snow, Oh My!

Base: one coat Zoya Get Even
Color: three coats Smitten Polish ERMAHGERD Candy Corms
Top: one coat Seche Vite
Application: excellent (out of poor, average, good, excellent)

Well ladies and gents, I am happy to be back to blogging! I hope you missed me as much as I missed you!! I know I wasn't gone for too long, but after more than two years of blogging at least 3 times a week, it seemed like a long absence to me. I had a really rough week though, starting off with Hurricane Sandy. Sandy hit my area extremely hard, and the whole feel of my town was very apocalyptic. My own home was safe, but it was a mentally hard time. During the hurricane, our chimney cap blew off and before we could have it replaced, a flying squirrel (!!) came into the fireplace. Despite our best efforts, she came into my living room through the fireplace. Trust me, you do NOT want a flying squirrel in your house. No matter how cute they are. Here is the little devil hiding in my coat closet:

The little squirrel was safely relocated by a professional to a lovely tree in the woods behind my house. She was not hurt at all and quite happy to be free. If you are in Southwestern CT and need a critter relocated from your house, I HIGHLY recommend Wild Things. After flying squirrel-gate, we lost power for a few days while the utility company fixed downed trees in our area. And now I have bronchitis, plus the Nor'easter is here, ravaging my town yet again (see picture of snowy bush below)!! So, it's been a really unpleasant week, but I am so thankful to still have a house, unlike many people just down the street from me.

Now on to the happy stuff!! Smitten Polish ERMAHGERD Candy Corms is my nail of the day, and I am loving it! This polish has a smooth, even, creamy white base filled with small yellow and orange glitters and large orange and yellow hex glitters. Every time I look at my nails, I want to eat Candy Corn (which I can do, since I bought a giant bag of it)!

ERMAHGERD Candy Corms applied like a dream. I said it before, but Noelie from Smitten Polish is a master at making white bases that apply easily and streak-free. I am not sure how she does it, but I will keep buying her polishes LOL! This is three coats of ECC by itself, no base color needed (another plus!).

Above, you can see the view out of my front door today. This is really uncalled for right after a hurricane. I didn't have work today because of this and I also didn't have work for three days last week because of Sandy! Unfortunately, I don't get paid when we don't have work... :(. I'm going to work on my OPI Skyfall Part 2 right now though!

Smitten Polish is developing her Holiday colors by the way, and they look EXCELLENT!! To see previews of the holiday color/stay in touch with Smitten Polish, visit her Facebook page. Smitten Polish is available through her Etsy store, and ERMAHGERD Candy Corms is still in stock right now (along with Spice Cake- review coming soon, Confection, and a couple other goodies)!
