Born Pretty Store Glow In the Dark Polish!

Base: one coat Nicole by OPI Base Coat Plus
Color: three coats Born Pretty Store Glow in the Dark Polish #11
Top: none
Application: excellent (out of poor, average, good, excellent)
Born Pretty Store Glow in the Dark #11 was sent for review. All opinions are my own honest thoughts.

Glow in the dark polish is a cool concept, but I find that a lot of the time, it doesn't work out in practice. They are usually super sheer, sometimes almost colorless, and the glow action is faint and fleeting. However, I recently tried Born Pretty Store's Glow in the Dark polish in #11 and was pleasantly surprised by my experience. For one thing, #11 is a totally gorgeous neon pink jelly that I would wear even if it weren't glow in the dark! It's so bright and squishy, I really love the color. For another thing, it did actually glow in the dark! I had to hold it up to a light to charge it up, but then the glow lasted for probably 10 minutes. The longer you charge the polish, the longer the glow lasts. I just got bored standing there next to a light LOL.

The other great thing about this polish is that it applied so well. No streaks or weird patches, just lovely smooth hot pink jelly! This is three coats and there is some VNL, but it's the squishy jelly kind, so that's OK! Below you can see glow in the dark pictures!! Very cool!

After maybe 5 minutes, the glow lessens, as you can see below.

Overall, this is probably the best glow in the dark polish I've tried. It looks great all day long, not just in the dark, and that really has been something that other glow in the dark polishes sometimes lack in my experience. This polish comes in a variety of pretty neon colors, I'm dying to try that bright orange. Check out this glow in the dark polish and other nail art supplies at Born Pretty Store.

Essie DJ Play That Song

Base: one coat Nicole by OPI Base Coat Plus
Color: two coats OPI Alpine Snow, two coats Essie DJ Play That Song
Top: one coat Essie Good to Go
Application: good (out of poor, average, good, excellent)
Essie DJ Play That Song was purchased by me. All opinions are my own honest thoughts.

I'm trying to finish swatching some of my summer polishes, because this blog is about to turn into Fall 2013 central. I'll be getting the new fall Zoya PixieDusts soon, the Zoya Cashmeres and Satins, and OPI San Francisco too! But before we get there, let's look at Essie DJ Play That Song, a bright pinky-purple from Essie's neon collection this year. I usually buy a bunch of the Essie neons each summer, but this time I only came home with DJ Play That Song. These neons need to be layered over white (Essie included a white base with the collection) and aren't very retina-searing. I prefer my neons to blind people. DJ Play That Song is a nice bright purple, even if it's not super neon, and we all know I'm a sucker for purples.

For this look, I layered two coats of DJ Play That Song over two coats of OPI Alpine Snow. The first coat of DJ looked pretty uneven, but it smoothed out with the second. I have tried DJ alone with no white base and you can definitely wear it that way. It's relatively opaque at three coats, with a tiny bit of VNL. It is definitely not as bright without a white base though. The formula is pretty good on this one, not too thick like some neons. Some people are having a problem with two of last year's neons, Camera and Action, separating, so hopefully DJ does not do that in a year.

I like Essie DJ Play That Song and I'll definitely wear it. I don't feel that it is particularly unique or outstanding though, so it's skippable if you aren't a hoarder dedicated polish blogger. The Neon collection has been out for awhile, so it might be pretty picked over in your local stores. DJ Play That Song is still available at nailsupplies.us though, as is the whole Neon collection and Naughty Nauticals too!

Jindie Nails Princess Consuela Banana-hammock

Base: one coat Nicole by OPI Base Coat Plus
Color: three coats Jindie Nails Princess Consuela Banana-hammock
Top: one coat Essie Good to Go
Application: good (out of poor, average, good, excellent)
Jindie Nails Princess Consuela Banana-hammock was purchased by me. All opinions are my own honest thoughts.

Jindie Nails Princess Consuela Banana-hammock- whew! What a name! This polish was a total impulse buy. I follow Jindie Nails on Instagram and immediately went to buy this as soon as she said it was available. It has a crazy name, it's yellow and has neon orange, pink and red glitters. It's perfect for me! Yellow can be tricky, but the base of this is an excellent yellow jelly that is completely streak free! The jelly-ness helps the glitter show through, but I think it also prevents streaking of any kind. The base color is like a really bright banana, not soft or creamy looking at all. Also, I was very excited when I did these swatches because I didn't remember that there were stars in here (both red and white)!

Princess Consuela Banana-hammock applied really well considering the amount of glitter in it. I did three regularly applied coats for this look, no dabbing necessary. The yellow is smooth and even and it was easy to get it that way. I had to stir my brush around sometimes to grab more glitter on it, but overall application was very good.

Princess Consuela Banana-hammock is sold out right now at Jindie Nails online shop, but keep an eye on Jindie Nails Facebook for restock info. Jen posts a lot on Instagram too, so if you're on there definitely follow Jindie Nails. I'm on Instagram these days too (@nvrenoughnails). I post mostly make-up, Irish dance, and cat pictures, but feel free to follow me there if you like kittens and make-up LOL.

Born Pretty Store Nail Art Pen in #15

Base: one coat Nicole by OPI Base Coat Plus
Color: two coats OPI My Vampire Is Buff, yellow flower with Born Pretty Store Nail Art Pen #15, center of flower Essie DJ Play That Song
Top: one coat Essie Good to Go
Application (of nail art pen): good (out of poor, average, good, excellent)
Born Pretty Store nail art pen, dotting tools, and OPI My Vampire Is Buff were sent for review, Essie DJ Play That Song was purchased by me. All opinions are my own honest thoughts.

OK, OK, we all know by now that I'm no nail art guru! But that doesn't mean I can't try from time to time! The fun thing about nail polish is doing whatever you want to do, so if you get the urge to try some nail art, just go for it. It comes off in less than 5 minutes with remover anyway. Born Pretty Store recently sent me this nail art pen in such a lovely shade of golden yellow (#15) and I immediately thought of flowers. All of the nail art pens I've tried in the past have been black, so it's nice to have a colored one for a change.

My flowers look a little impressionistic, but they weren't hard to do and they look cute from a distance LOL. To use the nail art pen, you shake it and then press the tip down on a paper towel/scrap paper several times to get the paint flowing. I then drew a circle in the center(ish) of each name and made petals around the circle. I used a Born Pretty Store dotting tool (reviewed here) to dot Essie DJ Play That Song into the center of the flower. Easy! If I had a little more nail art skill, I bet this would look fantastic!

The tip on this nail art pen is very stiff and firm. This is a good thing, because it allows you to be more precise with your designs. However, you have to make sure your nail polish is absolutely 110% dry. I would actually recommend doing the base color at night, letting it dry while you sleep and then doing the design the next day. If the polish isn't dry, the tip of the pen can dent and scrape the base color.

Overall, this is one of the better nail art pens I have used. The polish doesn't come gooping out all over, nor does it not come out when you're using it. The firm tip is good for precise designs (not that I am able to do those...). I also like that this comes in a couple of cute colors besides basic black or white, including pink, red and silver (it does also come in black and white if that's what you want). The budget friendly price of $3.99 doesn't hurt either! The only downside I saw was that the stiffness of the tip can wreck a still wet mani, so just make sure your base polish is dry as a bone.

This nail art pen is available at Born Pretty Store. They do have free shipping worldwide and you can get 10% off with the code ERJ61.

Lac Attack Weasley's Wizard Wheezes

Base: one coat Nicole by OPI Base Coat Plus
Color: two coats L'oreal Mango Mamma, two coats Lac Attack Weasley's Wizard Wheezes
Top: one coats Essie Good to Go
Application: good (out of poor, average, good, excellent)

Of course, as soon as I got this lovely combo on my nails and headed outside to take pictures, it started to downpour. Connecticut weather has been kind of gross lately. It's either baking hot and 100% humidity, raining, or threatening to rain. Despite the bad lighting and raindrops, I hope you can tell that Lac Attack Weasley's Wizard Wheezes is a lovely mix of orange, yellow and red glitters. This polish is named after the joke shop owned by two of my favorite characters in the Harry Potter books, Fred and George Weasley. They basically provide a lot of laughs throughout the series and are also the stars of my favorite scene from the books (their exit from Hogwarts LOL). The colors in Weasley's Wizard Wheezes definitely remind me of the red-haired twins!

This is two coats of Weasley's Wizard Wheezes over two coats of L'Oreal Mango Mamma. Mango Mamma is an excellent tangerine jelly, by the way. I need to see if I can pick up some more of those L'Oreal jellies for sandwiching and glitter undies. Weasley's Wizard Wheezes has lots of glitter, but isn't thick at all. It was easy to get a nice selection of glitter on the nail using the dabbing method.

You can purchase Lac Attack polishes on her website. Like Lac Attack on Facebook to get the latest news about restocks. The Magical Musings polishes are all currently out of stock, but she has said that she will keep restocking them until no one wants them anymore. I think that's awesome by the way. There's nothing worse than wanting an indie polish so badly and not being able to get it.

And here's a bonus passed out kitten in a bag:
