Zoya Zenith Holiday 2013 Collection, Part 2!

 *Press sample*

OK OK, I know you probably all want to skip over Zoya Cassedy and get to the scattered holos, but it's really quite a lovely deep gray chunky shimmer. Cassedy is one of those polishes where you can see each individual shimmer particle, and I love those. It's also the perfect shade of dark gray for winter. Gray is a neutral for me in the winter and the darkness of this one gives it a nice edge.

This is just two coats of Cassedy and it was nicely opaque. The formula was excellent too, easy to apply and just the right consistency. All swatches in this post are topped with a coat of Essie Good to Go.

Here with go with the much-talked about "scattered holos"! Zoya Dream is a lovely jelly-ish medium blue with iridescent glitter flecks. Dream is not very strong in the holo department, that's why I'm call them iridescent flecks. There is a little flash of rainbow here and there, but not all the time, and not very often. Most of the time, the glitter flecks look silver. It is a gorgeous polish though, and I definitely love it, even without a blinding rainbow effect.

This is three coats of Dream. It has a very jelly-like consistency, so there is a bit of VNL still. It applied very nicely though and was easy to control around the cuticle area.

Zoya Payton has a lot more going on in the rainbow department. I think it's almost enough for me to actually call this a scattered holo. Payton is a gorgeous deep cranberry jelly with rainbow-y glitter flecks. The color is SO perfect for winter and the holiday season. You can see from my photos that this one was flashing a lot more rainbow than Dream. Payton is definitely my favorite of the Zenith collection, and the most unique too!

This is only two coats of Payton (yay!) and I was very happy with the opacity. The formula had a gel-like feel and was so easy to apply precisely.

Overall, I like the Zenith collection a lot for winter. I know a lot of people get tired of seeing red, green, and gold for holiday collections, but personally, those are the colors I feel like wearing come December. Zenith's cool icy colors seem perfect for winter storms though. My top picks of the collection are Payton and Dream of course. I think those two will be everyone's favorites! Cassedy is definitely worth an honorable mention though, as it is a gorgeous polish in it's own right.

The Zoya Zenith collection will be available on October 1 on zoya.com!

Zoya Zenith Holiday 2013 Collection, Part 1!

*Press sample*

The Zoya Zenith collection has been pretty hotly anticipated in the few weeks since we first heard about it. I can't believe I'm already swatching a holiday collection, but such is the way of the beauty industry. The first polish I tried from this collection was Zoya Seraphina, a pale white gold/silver with an interesting metallic foil finish. It's not really a true foil, it's almost like a foil fleck (instead of glass fleck). The color is lighter and brighter than most silver polishes I own. Zoya calls it a "Polaris silver" and if they mean Polaris the brightest star in Ursa Minor, I can see that description- it's kind of like a bright star. It also reminds me of the color of glittering snow or ice.

I used three thicker coats of Seraphina for these pictures. The first coat was very very sheer. If you tend to do thin coats, you may need four coats to hide any VNL. Aside from the sheerness, the formula was good, maybe a tad on the thin side. All swatches in this post are with one coat of Essie Good to Go on top.

Zoya Belinda is a pretty blurple shimmer. Being the sucker for purples that I am, I like this a lot. It's not the most unique shade in the collection, but blurple shimmers are generally pretty popular with the nail community. This color is pretty seasonless, it doesn't scream "holiday!", so you can get quite a lot of use out of it.

I used two coats of Belinda for these swatches. The formula was good, but not excellent. It was a little thin and not as easy to control as I would have liked. You have to use a bit of caution to avoid pooling in the cuticles. Nice full coverage though.

I decided to layer Zoya Mosheen over Belinda, because I thought it would be easy to see all of the glitters over the dark base. Mosheen is a mixture of iridescent ice blue glitters and bar glitters in a clear base. I am not a fan of bar glitter, so I can't say I love this. The bars are small though, so they mostly laid flat on the nail. The ice blue color of this is very cool and wintery though. I might want to try it over a bright white, or maybe even Seraphina, for a real winter storm look!

This is two thin coats of Mosheen. It packs a fair bit of glitter in one coat, but I always like to have even more glitter. The glitters all come out easily on to the nail, no fishing required.

I can't wait to try the other three from this collection (especially the scattered holos!!). Stay tuned for those swatches!

Rescue Beauty Lounge Scrangie 2.0

The original Rescue Beauty Lounge Scrangie is one of those legendary polishes that every lacquer lover worth their salt HAS to own. So when RBL announced Scrangie 2.0, I felt like I had to get it. Rescue Beauty Lounge Scrangie 2.0 is a glittering taupe shimmer that flashes rainbow shimmer in the sunlight. Indoors, however, it looks like a pretty standard taupe shimmer. The description on the RBL site says Scrangie wanted "a black oil slick with a multifaceted ring visible in low-light". Scrangie 2.0 isn't black and I don't really see a multifaceted ring in low-light. You can see the shimmer in low light for sure, but it's not really rainbow-y. But I do like this polish! If you have a ton of taupe shimmers, it may not be all that unique.

Scrangie 2.0 was totally opaque in just two easy coats and the formula was great, not too thick or too thin. It was one of the easiest RBLs to work with in my experience. It's a really pretty edgy neutral that is perfect fall.

Scrangie 2.0 is currently available on rescuebeauty.com.

Interesting Read- Zoya's Fashion Week Participation

I thought this was neat to see how nail polish is really an important part of fashion shows these days. Very cool!

Zoya Nail Polish: SS14 New York Fashion Week Custom Color Development and Show Participation.
Zoya Nail Polish continued to be a fashion force of color during New York Fashion Week by providing custom nail colors for designers Peter Som, Zang Toi, Timo Weiland and Rolando Santana.
The time required for custom color development is worth the effort; previous collaborations have resulted in increased recognition for nails as a key part of each shows individual beauty story. Brand awareness is a benefit of the recent fashion week success of Zoya. According to Leo Reyzis, Vice President of Art of Beauty (parent company to Zoya Nail Polish), “in merging the world of fashion with that of professional beauty, Zoya has created a unique custom color opportunity the benefits both the designer and the Zoya brand’. The custom color collaborations allow designers to see color via a different medium than the fabrics they are accustomed to working with. “Creatively, it gives designers a risk-free way to venture into nail polish without having to launch their own beauty line”. Overall, it’s a wonderful experience for all parties involved. As a courtesy, Zoya also suggests the designers name each color for a woman representing the collection, brand or as a nod to someone special, “it’s a bigger part of the collaboration than most people realize” says Reyzis, “naming the color makes it personal… and that’s special”. Most of the designers also choose to gift the color to show attendees, allowing everyone to take home a piece of the show right away!
Each designer nail palette was created in direct collaboration with Zoya Color Developer, Rebecca Isa, who held true to the brand commitment to provide toxin free*, long-wearing, beautiful professional nail color for natural nails.
Isa delivers an extensive background in cosmetics and a one-of-kind knowledge resource to designers taking the nail color plunge. Her cosmetics color understanding on behalf of Zoya Nail Polish marries well with that of the designers understanding of fabric allowing the color to seamlessly meld with the collections and remain as attractive in the Zoya bottle as they are on the nail.
Peter Som: For Peter Som, Isa developed three new polishes; Zoya Edie (blue cream), Zoya Alexa (green cream), and Zoya Stella (peach cream). “The inspiration for the Peter Som custom trio was - Where land meets sea… - the serene marine blue represents the water, the vibrant green represents the lush plant life surrounding the water and the soft peach is the delicate first bloom of spring flowers. Eddie and Alexa are full coverage and very pigmented so that a shaded half-moon mani can be achieved; which is exactly how the shades were worn coming down the runway”.

Zang Toi Limited Edition Trio by ZoyaZang Toi: “The inspiration for the Zang Toi trio was found at the ballet and in the beautifully lux fabrics he used to create his modern ballet babe” says Isa. “The two softer shades in the collection were a Spring blue (show name - Boy Toi) and a soft pink (show name - Ballet Babe) - both have full coverage with two coats so they are more dense than traditional spring pastels. The drama comes from the onyx black (show name - Black Swan) with a full glossy finish that looks almost like liquid vinyl. For the show Zang Toi chose to put all the models in high drama wearing the black polish with irregular stripes of matte top coat to add texture and accent”.

Timo Weiland: “For Spring 2014 the design team of Timo Weiland was looking for a rich signature indigo that would perfectly balance the blues in the beautiful collection.” The indigo Isa created for Timo Weiland “is fully pigmented and balanced so that it stays blue even with multiple coats; it flatters any skin tone and is a wonderfully wearable shade that looks especially fresh for the season”. In addition to the custom blue, the Timo team selected an existing color, Zoya Maura, as the perfect red for some looks. Models wore either solid Timo or Maura nail on both hands.

Peekaboo PetalRolando Santana: “The inspiration for Rolando Santana’s trio was the artwork of Frida Kahlo - bold, bright and beautiful. For the show, models wore a combination of Natasha (nude cream) and Sara (yellow cream), creating a nude base with a vertical yellow petal accent which was fresh and original a perfect accent to his beautiful collection” said Isa. A third color, Maria (a deep fuchsia cream) was created as a compliment to the others for the show gift box.

Fashion week also drew Zoya attention at the shows of Nicholas K., Chadwick Bell, Mark and Estel, and Alexandre Herchcovitch, all of which selected Zoya Nail Polish as the nail color and care provider for their amazing shows.
Nicholas K.: Kicking off Mercedes Benz Fashion Week as the very first show, Nicholas K. paid tribute to the designing duo’s childhood memories of Native American traditions in monochromatic hues flowing from white, to tan and finally to black. For the nails, Zoya manicurists applied two coats of Zoya Noot (charcoal green-gray cream), topped by a matte and then finally a chevron “arrow tip” to each nail in Zoya Edyta (deep sparkling green).

PosedChadwick Bell: “For Spring and Summer 2014, layering color is going to be a strong trend” said Isa. Designer Chadwick Bell created his own custom layered look using several popular Zoya colors starting with a nude pink-beige base (Zoya Erin), topped by a sheer white-gold shimmer (Zoya Gaia) on most nails and then added a random accent nail of nude (Zoya Jacqueline) under a single coat of gold (Zoya Goldie) and topped that nail only with a matte topcoat. Chadwick wanted the nails to be extensions of the Anndra Neen jewelry which was also featured in the show.

Mark and Estel: There is nothing subtle or uncreative about the new world collection of design duo of Mark Tango and Estel Day, with Zoya Noot (charcoal green-gray cream) on hand the models walked the runway in solid nails that smoldered and complimented the black “cat eye” liner and Avant Garde Jewelry designs. The Made in the USA line featured monochromatic colors in untraditional Spring and Summer use of heavy fabrics and was awash with cutouts, zippers and sheers. The collection was a crowd pleaser to all senses with a live performance of the music and fashion duo for the show finale.

Alexandre Herchcovitch: Black but not basic, the Zoya Raven (satin shimmer black) and an ultra-glossy Zoya Armor top coat manicure on models added edge to the almost solidly black and white, graphic collection of Brazilian fashion design sensation Alexandre Herchcovitch for the 2014 Spring and Summer collection.

SinfulColors SinfulShine Slick

 Purchased by me.

I have one more SinfulShine polish to show you today (until I buy more), the purple-y goodness of SinfulColors Slick. Slick is a beautiful blue-purple shimmer with the same outstanding shine as the rest of the SinfulShines line. It looks in some lights like the shimmer is actually pink, if you look up by my cuticles in the first picture you can kind of see what I mean. I have a weakness for purple shimmers and this one is really nice.

I used two coats of Slick in these photos. It was nicely pigmented. I thought it was a little less perfect application wise than the cremes I have tried from this line. It seemed a bit streaky on the first coat and it wasn't as easy to get it super close to the cuticle without flooding. I would say the formula was good, but not excellent.

Purchased by me.

Slick seems to be one of the newer SinfulShines, like Rise & Shinier and Go Glossy. Again, I don't know if these are LE, so if one is calling you, go get it sooner rather than later. SinfulColors SinfulShines are only available at Walgreens.

In other news, I feel like it's been a little dull around here lately. I've been really busy with something very important for my real job. However, it's about to get more exciting with several giveaways coming up very soon, so keep an eye out for those!!
